I am Marben Bland, Pastor Of Greater Bethel AME Athens with a Living The Word Moment.
As John the Baptist baptized multitudes, the people, filled with expectation, wondered if he might be the Messiah. John responded, as recorded in Luke 3:16, saying, "I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I will come... He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
In Jericho, a blind man sat by the roadside begging. When he heard a crowd passing by, he asked what was happening. They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." The man cried out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Moved by his faith, Jesus restored his sight, saying, "Your faith has saved you."
The challenges, uncertainties, and difficulties of our lives are not merely troubles—they are opportunities to do what the blind man did: cry out to Jesus. When we do so, we are, in a sense, being baptized by our faith—a transformative act that renews our hope and draws us closer to God.
