A dysfunctional family is defined as one in which conflict, misbehavior and often child neglect or abuse happens regularly.

The Jacksons are perhaps the most famous of all dysfunctional celebrity families.  Joe Jackson traumatized Michael as a child.  A direct link to the problems the late superstar had as an adult.

In Genesis we meet Isaac and Rebekah, they have twin boys Esau and Jacob.  Dysfunction happens in the womb as the children struggled with each other.

God tells Rebekah the younger one will be stronger, chosen by God to be the foundation of his chosen people. The older brother against Jewish law and custom will serve the younger brother.

This family clearly meet the classic definition of being dysfunction.  So why is God using them?

Perhaps the dysfunction is not with the family but rather the Jewish law and custom.  That stands in the way of the will of God.

The Jewish law and custom that fails to recognize that God sets the order and what may look dysfunction is simply God doing his thing.

When God told Isaac’s father Abram that he would be father of many nations he was 75 with a barren wife.  However, he put his trust in the Lord, and God made him Abraham the father of many nations.

God made the dysfunction, functional when you trust him, he will do the same for you.
