Luke’s account of Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem says: “he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.”  (Luke 19:28)

Yesterday on Palm Sunday, we heard a lot about the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.  We heard a lot about the donkey that was tied to the tree just it was prophesied.  We heard a lot about the people throwing branches on the ground to celebrate his arrival.   We heard a lot about the Pharisees ordering Jesus to silence his disciples only to hear our Savior to declare if they were silenced, the stones would shout out.

What we heard was a triumphal entry - but what we feel is the passion of Jesus.

The passion of Jesus is not to ride in triumph on a prophesied donkey

The passion of Jesus is not the shouts of Hoshana from the crowd

The passion of Jesus is not even his victory over death

The passion of Jesus is salvation – your salvation

For God so loved that world that He gave us Jesus so that you and I could have everlasting life.

So today as we begin this Holy Week let us bask in the triumph but let us live in the salvation that the passion of Jesus has given us.  A salvation that will provide joy, glory, and peace in this life and in the life beyond.
