El Shaddai, YHWH, The Great I am. These are three of the many names we have called God. While we have many names for God, the questions for many is who is God?
From its very beginning in Genesis 1:1, the Bible never attempts to prove the existence of God; rather, it assumes His existence. However, what the Bible does reveal is the nature, character, and work of God.
Scripture tells us that God’s nature is that God is One, but He exists as three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Matthew 3:16-17
Of His character Psalm 5:5 tells us that God judges sin, but also offers forgiveness (Psalm 130:4).
We cannot understand God apart from His works because what God does flows from who He is. Here is an abbreviated list of God’s works, past, present, and future: God created the world (Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 42:5); He actively sustains the world (Colossians 1:17); God is executing His eternal plan (Ephesians 1:11) which involves our redemption from the curse of sin and death.
Yes, El Shaddai, YHWH, The Great I am, are three of the many names for God. However, having a relationship with God is the only way to truly know of God’s nature, character, and work.
So, today as we ask who is God? We must ask ourselves also do you have a relationship with God? Are you saved? If you want to have a relationship with God, then pray with me please:
Lord God, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life.
I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Amen
