In baseball a triple occurs when a batter hits the ball and reaches third base without an error. Lots of action takes place when a triple is hit the outfielder runs after the ball, the batter races around the bases, the ball is retrieved, a throw to third is made, the batter slides in a cloud of dust with the umpire calling the runner “Safe!” in a close play at third base.
With all that action it’s no wonder that the triple is often known as the most exciting play in baseball. For a baseball fan like me the triple is indeed a triple blessing.
This week Christians worldwide will celebrate the triple blessing of the Lord called the trinity. We will celebrate God in three persons, God the Father who created us and the world, God the Son, Jesus who came to the world to teach and save us from sin, and God the Holy Spirit, the comforter that God sent to the world on the Day of Pentecost to give us the courage, the strength, and the wisdom to share the Gospel.
So, this week let us rejoice for the triple blessings of the Trinity, and the most exciting time as a Christian as we heed the command of Jesus to share the Gospel, making disciples of all nations. Hitting our own triple as we baptize those new in the faith in the name of the God Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
