On the day of Pentecost, as promised by Jesus the Holy Spirit the power, comfort and enabler of God came to the disciples. It transformed the disciples from twelve uncertain and scared men locked in a room into a powerhouse for the Lord.
The Holy Spirit gave Peter not only the ability but the authority to preach the Gospel to the multitudes and on the day of Pentecost 3,000 people came to Jesus. These gritty Christians were the first converts of the early church.
Acts 4:32 describes the community these believers formed. A community of one heart and mind. A community where none of them would say “this is mine!’ A community where all possessions were shared.
If we believe that the Bible is true and its teaching to be followed the question is this: “in our communities of faith is Acts 4:32 practiced…. is this us?”
Clearly the answer is no. 21st century communities of believers don’t operate like this. The fact is very few communities of believers in the history of the church have operated in an Acts 4:32 way.
Acts 4:32 may seem like an impossible standard to achieve, however God’s grace is sufficient, and he has given us other means to achieve the outcomes of Acts 4:32.
Jesus in Mark 12:30-31 commands two things of us first is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind and second to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
So now the question is not about a community of believers the question is about us? Do you love the Lord? Do you love yourself? Do you love your neighbor? Is this us?
The Acts 4:32 community that we are called to live in is comprised of the personal actions of its believers. In other words, it is how you and I love the lord, it is how you and I love ourselves, and it is how you and I how we love our neighbors.
So, the Act 4:32 question to ponder and then act on is this us?
