When I was young the night before Christmas was a time of watching, waiting, and wondering. Watching to see when Santa will come, waiting endlessly for Christmas morning to come, and wondering what in the world would be there for me under the tree.
After the angels delivered the news to the shepherds that Jesus was born, the time for watching, waiting, and wondering had ended. They said “Let’s go right now to Bethlehem and see what’s happened. Let’s confirm what the Lord has revealed to us.”
The shepherds went quickly finding Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw this, they reported what they had been told about this child. And when the shepherds told people what they saw everyone was amazed.
As Disciples of Christ the time for watching, waiting, and wondering is over. We no longer have the watch because the savior is visible to all. We no longer have the wait because the savior has arrived, and we no longer have to wonder because Jesus is real.
What we must do is to take action. Jesus has called us to action, Jesus has called us to make disciples of all nations, Jesus has called us to teach his gospel, Jesus has called us to baptize, Jesus has called us to serve.
This Christmas the greatest gift you can give is Jesus. The world is watching, waiting, and wondering to see if you will answer your Christmas call to action.
