After the Rainy-Day account is filled with funds as mandated. The law calls for the cash to go into a separate account of unobligated money to be used at the state government’s discretion.
According to U.S. News and World Report of the 50 states Georgia ranks 30th in health care, we rank 26th in education, and 29th in crime and corrections.
I know that money does not solve problems. However, with our rankings in the lower third of in these important categories it must be asked “Is There No Balm In Georgia?”
Is there no balm to pay teachers a living salary?
Is there no balm to pay our first responders more and train them better?
Is there no balm to take the Medicare expansion money to provide healthcare for our neighbors?
The expression “putting your money where your mouth is” is a great indicator of the priorities of the people charged with running our state. With these low rankings and our leaders desire to do nothing about them it must be true that there is no balm in Georgia.
