According to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive and reported by the Washington Post there have been more than 600 mass shootings so far in 2022.

With a month to go in the year the question is will 2022 top the 2021 record of 700 mass shootings?

A mass shooting is defined where four or more people, not including the shooter, are injured, or killed.

The data shows we have averaged more than one per day so far this year. Not a single week in 2022 has passed without at least four mass shootings.

This is at least the fifth time I have written, blogged, or podcasted about mass shootings in the last four years.   I had decided not to speak out this time thinking what difference it will make.    The NRA will still lobby, the Congress will not act, and the shooters will keep on shooting. But them God reminded me of the Parable Of The Persistent Widow.

The widow in this parable functions as a model for discipleship with respect to persistent prayer. She goes before the unjust judge with her petition over and over, not taking no for an answer. She was resilient and she was faithful to what she believed in. She was persistent in her pursuit of justice.

For those of us seeking justice in the form of common-sense gun laws, including background checks, closing the gun loop holes and banding assault weapons, we must be like the widow, diligent in our cause, steadfast in our faith and in persistent prayer.
