On October 15th, 1958, 17-year-old Albert “Shug” Hill, Jr was shot and killed by his white neighbor 36-year-old Earl Vance Shivers.  According to local newspaper reports, Mr. Shivers said he shot the black teenager because he was looking through a window of the Shivers’ home where his wife and daughter were sitting.
