From June 26 to July 7, of this year I had the great honor of making my second pilgrimage within a years’ time to the Holy Land.
Traveling with a group of 30 pastors from the US and Canada. We were led Rabbi Brad Hischfied and Rabbi Joshua Stanton along with scholar The Reverend, Doctor Brian Maguire, and our local guide Gray Kamen. Our group spent two weeks sanding and seeing where Jesus lived while living in modern-day Israel. We were embedded in the complex landscape of a Jewish state nestled in a land that Christians and Muslins also claim as their own.
God placed six questions on my hart during the Holy Land pilgrimage.
1. Who Is God?
2. What does it mean to live a meaningful life?
3. How Do We Build The Beloved Community?
4. Why Do Bad Things Happen?
5. Is There An Afterlife?
6. Who Do They Say I am?
“The Six Fundamental Questions Of Our Faith”, sermon series has been my attempt to find and share Godly answers to these questions.
In the text that we are studying today from Matthew 6:15 Jesus asks Peter “Who do they say I am?” Peter’s answer “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Provides the simple but powerful acknowledgement that can help us grow stronger in our faith. Paired with Paul’s teaching from Romans 12:9-21 provides an aspirational roadmap of our spiritual growth.
