Laurens county is in central Georgia about a two-hour drive from Atlanta. The County has two high schools, East Laurens and West Laurens high schools both have been in the news lately.
On Tuesday an East Laurens High School student was killed and three injured in a car crash. Last Friday, five West Laurens County High School students were pictured spelling out the N word on t-shirts at a football game.
2 Timothy 2:22-25 calls our us to flee from youthful passions but rather pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace. This is sound teaching from a divine source however, the question is how can our youth discern what are youthful passions?
How can a young driver be taught to be more careful while driving? How can young white boys know the offensives of the N word?
As incredible as it may appear the answer is “we must tell them.” That is what the author of 2nd Timothy 2:22-25 is telling us.
In the Laurens County School District code of conduct, there isn't any guidance regarding racial slurs. Was their guidance in the home? Was their guidance in the church? Was their guidance anywhere?
The 2nd Timothy 2:22-25 question before us today is are we telling them?
Are we telling the young people in our lives about history of our people and our families?
Are we telling the young people in our lives about the evilness of the “N Word?”
Are we telling the young people in our lives about Jesus?
Join us tomorrow at Greater Bethel as we look at more wisdom from 2nd Timothy in a teaching entitled fighting the good fight of faith. Worship with us in person at 140 Rose Street in Athens. Worship with us online on Facebook and YouTube and watch our early sermon at 10:00 PM tonight and 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM on Sunday. So until tomorrow – Blessings, Peace and Love.
