Description

Disneyworld has been a place that almost every child dreams of going to. It is supposed to be a magical place where families have a wonderful time.

However, every year it becomes more expensive to go to Disneyworld and despite the increases in price Disney continues to cut the Disneyworld experience. This year not only are they raising prices but they are also talking about cutting down on food portions and the restaurants while increasing prices at the same time.

Yet that is not the only place where Disney has decided to charge. Parking lots at the hotels that used to be free for guests staying at the hotel are now charging. Disney also used to provide free bus service from the Orlando Airport to the resort hotels but cut that out and now the private company that provided the bus service now charges between $30 and $60 to ride the bus. They have also put Fastpasses out of the reach of most people.

Also, there are also the things that went away during COVID that still have not come back. The most glaring example of this is the parades that have delighted children for years. They were cut back during the times of COVID and still have not returned and Disney has not indicated if and when they return. However, in some good news, Disney has reinstated the trams.

The question is, has the time come for families to find alternatives to the Magic Kingdom that will still entrain the children?

One alternative to Disneyland is Knott's Berry Farm located just a few miles away in Buena Park. Growing up my father did not like how packed Disney would be and so he would also take me to Knott's. (For full disclosure I do own a small number of shares of the parent company of Knott's). I didn't understand until I was an adult that we would go to Knott's but I still have a fantastic time and had the opportunity to ride more rides because there were fewer people than at Disneyland. When planning a trip for spring break with my family were trying to decide between Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm since my kids have been to neither but when we priced it out Knott's was less than half the price of Disneyworld with two hotel rooms compared to one at Disney.

So is it time to switch?
