Traveling with children can be an adventure in itself. Traveling with teenagers can create a whole different dynamic depending on what stage of a teenager they are currently in. Now traveling with a teenager that has to use crutches due to a bad auto accident changes everything in fact traveling with anyone who has limited mobility can be an adventure.
On March 12th, my family started a 10 day trip to Los Angeles. There were several reasons for the trip. First of all, we wanted to visit my brother and his wife who had never had the opportunity to get to know our children. Second, it was an opportunity to show my children where I grew up, look at some of the places I lived, and hear a few stories that they have never heard about me. Of course one of the reasons we also wanted to take them on the trip was so that they could have fun.
However, when my daughter was the passenger in a car that hit a semi that was making an illegal maneuver, our whole trip changed. There would be no trip to Knotts Berry Farm and some of the other activities we had planned would have to be put aside. Having never had the experienced of being on crutches I did what all good fathers would do and looked for ideas of things we could do that she would enjoy doing and not be too difficult on her.
However, before we even made it to Los Angeles we had to travel there on multiple airplanes and we had no idea how well that would all go.
This episode deals with the steps we took, how well the airlines worked, and how well the lodging facilities took care of us under the circumstances. We would also talk the research we did and what we found out about traveling with a child on crutches.
