Description

When it comes to parenting, have you ever thought about ways you can do things differently than your own parents might have? We definitely have, and in this week’s episode you get a front row seat into our childhood upbringings and how we are trying to shift the generational cycles as we parent our own kids.

Motherhood wellness expert Alyson Hempsey gives us the definition of generational cycles (and generational trauma) and talks about how the ways we were treated as children manifest into our own parenting techniques decades later. Women’s health expert and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Marcy Crouch shares some memories she has of her own childhood and how they have shaped her as a mom.

In this episode we learn that two of the biggest ways generational cycles are perpetuated are through avoidance and overcompensation (ie. avoiding conflict or not talking about strong feelings), and Alyson shares with us some tools we can use to reflect on our motherhood journeys as we work to break these cycles.

Breaking generational cycles involves shifting our own behavioral responses and communication styles. So, how do we break the cycle? Well, you’re going to have to tune in to find out.
