Description

Nice small topic today, I thought I'd tackle God and suffering. Just your average blog post really, why not take on two of the biggest subjects on the planet?!

Welcome to another My Why from Claire Sandys (co-host of The Silent Why podcast). My Why episodes are weekly audio shorts of my latest blog post. If you'd prefer to read it, you can find it here:thesilentwhy.com/post/godheartlessorheartbroken

This episode is the first recording after my bout of Covid, so I'm afraid you can still hear it in my voice a little, I hope it won't distract you in any way.

As this episode goes out on Good Friday I thought I'd theme this week's My Why around the Easter story, but what actually came out when I wrote it was the whole subject of God and suffering. Nice easy, non-contentious subject there then!

I've never really struggled with the whole 'how can there be a God when there's so much suffering?' question, and in this episode I've tried to explain, in my own way, why. I find it fascinating that suffering pushes some people away from the idea of a God, and some people towards Him. Why is that? I think a lot of the answers are found in the Easter story, so when better to try and explore it, than on Good Friday.

Which side of the fence are you on? Is God heartless and impervious to our suffering? Or is he heartbroken as he suffers with us?

And it's a big topic, so it's a slightly bigger episode, so you'll get further in your car, more ironing completed and more washing up done while listening to this one.
