#019. Pet loss is huge for many people and it can easily be dismissed for those who haven't experienced it or who compare it to a human loss and believe it is something to just 'get over'. In this episode we share our experience of losing very dear pets.
This is The Silent Why, a podcast on a mission to open up conversations around loss and grief and to see if hope can be found in 101 different types of loss.
Loss #14 of 101 - Loss of a pet.
In our 18-year marriage we’ve loved, and lost, three incredible pets: a Weimaraner dog called Buzz, a giant rabbit called Alan, and a panther chameleon called Murray Green. Each one leaving too early, but also teaching us plenty about grief, loss and ultimately ourselves.
Murray died in 2021, just before we started the podcast, and an hour after he died we decided to record what it felt like, in that moment, in the middle of loss. In this episode you can hear that audio of us processing what it felt like.
As hosts, we want to sometimes share the personal losses we’ve experienced because they’ve all played their part in shaping how we’ve seen and dealt with grief, and been our inspiration to launch this podcast.
Visit our social media for a few pet pics. Or for photos and video of Murray in all his glory, you can visit his Instagram feed which is still live: www.instagram.com/achameleonobserved
