#030. Alicia Williams posted a video of herself cleaning a grave on TikTok and Instagram and it went viral making her a social media sensation from Bedford in Virginia.
This is The Silent Why, a podcast on a mission to open up conversations around loss and grief and to see if hope can be found in 101 different types of loss.
Alicia is known as Lady Taphos on social media (Taphos being Greek for 'grave') and has been seen by millions of people cleaning gravestones, but the hidden losses that led her into a local cemetery in the first place were what we wanted to talk to her about.
Loss #21 of 101 - Loss of childhood.
After a traumatic childhood, followed by a difficult divorce and high-conflict custody battle, Alicia felt at war with the world as she saw the childhood she’d wanted to protect for her children also slipping away. And then she entered the cemetery and found peace among the remains of people who could not talk back.
It was during this trauma that Alicia found herself drawn to grave cleaning and the process of restoration, which became metaphorical for her. Once she started she just couldn’t stop.
