Everyone is at a different point in his spiritual development. There are varying degrees of enlightenment. You become enlightened when you become educated about a particular course or subject of study. In the story I shared, the young man loses himself entirely in what he was doing. His game of chess becomes his whole world. Through that he gains understanding. And with understanding his compassion grew.
