Description

Shelia’s mentor from The Big Sister Little Sister program introduced her to the arts, which resulted in a lifelong love of theatre, music, and all things cultural.  These experiences empowered her curious mind to grow beyond her low-income youth. The college scholarship she got for theater catered to her specific interest in human beings, how they are internalizing, and how they are experiencing their roles and their lives.  Ultimately, she pivoted on her highly successful global career at UBS AG into talent coaching for her current firm, Templar Advisors.

Her international coaching expertise includes working with executives across finance ranging from private equity and wealth management to the largest global banks. While many of her clients are men, one of her specialties is coaching women and the unique challenges they face in a competitive world.  She espouses the proof that diverse talent results in a better bottom line and that there are many great women in the workplace who need role models to help them step into their value, build self-confidence, and even their own networks. Having grown up in male-dominated south coupled with her experience as a rare female leader during the 2008 credit crisis was formative. Today, Shelia likes to "pay it forward" as an advocate for women to start speaking up and engaging in necessary negotiations.

Negotiations for Shelia is simply problem-solving. It is something that we do every day. However, women need to be more active participants rather than feeling powerless in negotiations. She wants them to identify the tactics used between parties, whether it is a silent treatment or an invisible limited authority. She wants women to advocate not only for others but also for themselves while avoiding the social and scientifically proven pitfalls women face. She wants them to know their value, fight off fears of rejection, and be willing to walk away when they notice the terms of the deal have been changed.
