Landing a career in a tech company, Kim was pleasantly surprised how her psychology background helped her fit into its politics and complexities. She started out great, feeling no particular difference being a woman that she even thought that gender inequality in the workplace was overblown. However, it did not always remain that way. Soon she found herself going home angry over its brotastic culture. Having worked with the company for almost a decade, it had become comfortable and familiar. She felt that making changes was scarier than staying in an unhappy job.
But when she took her MBA on organizational leadership, she began to see things she could not turn a blind eye to. She decided to move to a smaller company where she can make a greater impact. In addition to that, her maternity leave gave her an opportunity to take a breath away from work for the very first time. That soul-searching chapter led her to coach. Fast-forward ten years later, she is still enjoying a successful career and livelihood in the industry.
And now, resonating with what most women coaches advocate, Kim is passionately helping women to become more visible, more confident, and more influential in traditionally male-dominated spaces. As a leadership coach focusing on women, she is also sharing with us a fresh and a rather positive perspective on impostor syndrome. She maintains that even if it were not in your power as a woman to change the long-term established workplace culture, you are not a hostage to it and you have a choice.
