Today on AHRI Snapshots, we catch up with Colorado State University Associate Professor, Dr Todd Gaines about metabolism-based glyphosate resistance.Peter Newman recently wrote AHRI insight on this topic. Back in 2011, then Ord River agronomist, Andrew Cripps, was approached by a farmer asking why his Barnyard grass had survived glyphosate.Dr Todd Gaines and Professor Steve Powles visited the northern irrigation region, took samples, and confirmed glyphosate resistance.Recently, further research at AHRI by Chinese researcher Dr Pan Lang, under the direction of AHRI’s Qin Yu, confirmed the world’s first case of metabolism-based glyphosate resistance.Todd shares his experience from back in 2011 and provides some insights into what this discovery means.
