Bill Deiz is now retired after a nearly 40 year career as a radio and television news reporter and news anchorman in Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. CNN features Bill in the recent documentary series, The Radical Story of Patty Hearst, since Bill and his team broadcast live one of the most dramatic events in the history of Los Angeles: the two and one half hour gun battle between the Symbionese Liberation Army, kidnappers of Patty Hearst, and Los Angeles Police. Their television signal was shared around the world and helped usher in the age of electronic news gathering.
