(Deuteronomy 20:8, NIV)
Then the officers shall add, “Is anyone afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his fellow soldiers will not become disheartened too.”
Before the people of Israel went out to battle, God told the leaders to separate out anyone who was afraid and fainthearted. He knew that fear would spread and dishearten others, keeping the army from victory. The spirits and attitudes of the people around you are transferable. You are going to become like the people you are around. Another Scripture says that if you walk with wise men, you will become wise. Notice it happens in the positive and in the negative.
You have to be selective with whom you choose to spend your time. If they are negative and critical, if they compromise and don’t have integrity, they are feeding you the wrong things. They are going to keep you from going to the next level. You don’t have to make a big announcement to them, but you need to spend less and less time with them. If you don’t separate yourself from the wrong people, you will never meet the right people. You should surround yourself with people who inspire you, challenge you, and cause you to grow.
“Father, thank You for how You use the right people to challenge and inspire me to grow and be my best. Help me to be honest with myself and bold in being selective with whom I spend my time. I trust You to bring the right people into my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
