(Luke 22:31–32, NKJV)
“Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail…”
Jesus warned Peter that the enemy was focused on him and was going to attack him and do his best to take him down. If Jesus had stopped there, that could be worrisome. “Oh man, I have a big battle on my hands.” But Jesus went on to say, “But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail.” Jesus was saying in effect, “The enemy is coming against you to distract you, to discourage you, to get you off course, but don’t worry. I’m praying for you, and I’m going to strengthen you. I’m going to keep you from being defeated. I’m the God who overrules.”
When life gets tough and things come against you, you have an advantage. You’re not on your own. Jesus is at the right hand of the Father right now praying for you so your faith will not fail. It’s great to have people praying for you, friends standing in faith, but when you have the risen Savior praying for you, you cannot be defeated.
“Father, thank You that Jesus is praying for me and because of that I cannot be defeated as I hold to Him by faith. Thank You that I am not alone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
