It reached its peak popularity in the 1,800s when the temperance movement used SHC as a propaganda tool. Charles Dickens even wrote about it! Even though most scientists and researchers claimed it is impossible for a human being to suddenly burst into flames without an outside ignition source, the phenomena continued to grow.
