Before we dive in, the all-important synopsis
In Die Hard, tough, no-nonsense New York Detective John McClane has flown out to Los Angeles to reunite with his children and estranged wife Holly Gennaro for Christmas. Meeting Holly at a Christmas party in her place of employment, The Nakatomi Building in Studio City, John immediately butts heads with his wife over the fact that she has dropped his last name and seems to be trying to move on without him. But before this marital friction can resolve itself, a group of slick, heavily armed European led terrorists/robbers take over the building in an effort to steal 640 million dollars in bearer bonds hidden in a maximum security safe on the 30th floor.
Murdering Joe Takagi the head executive of the LA wing of the firm, the robbers lead by evil mastermind Hans Gruber seem destined to succeed in their scheme. Except they didn’t count on one intelligent, resilient New York cop who escaped their initial attack and prowls in the shadows of the elevator shafts and abandoned floors, slowly evening the odds and thwarting Gruber’s plans.
Will John McClane stop Gruber?
Will the estranged couple reconcile?
And most important of all:
Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
