Description

Abnormal liver function tests, is a phenomena that many physicians will face throughout their careers. Patients may present with a myriad constellation of symptoms - asymptomatic and well, painless obstructive jaundice, a painful right hypochondrium etc. Recognizing an abnormal liver function test is only the first step.

Dr Thinesh Lee, Director for Clinical Services for the SingHealth Duke-NUS Liver Transplant Centre and a senior consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology SGH, shares with us his approach to abnormal liver function tests.

We discuss hepatocellular, cholestatic, as well as mixed pictures of abnormal function tests, and how we approach these patients with careful history taking and focused physical examination.
