Within Christian circles, you will often hear words like fruit, maturity, and growth. That's because the Bible uses those phrases, and the first part of Colossians 1 is a call upward to do those things. Produce evidence that you live for Jesus. Become mature in the practice of your faith. Grow in your knowledge of God's will and God's word.
The Colossian church is immature, just like a lot of us. They know Jesus as Lord, but they don't have a firm grip on how to live for him. Does that hit home? It should for all of us. Every Christian needs to be faithful and growing until our life ends or Christ returns.
