Kate Clatterbuck is representing Danville, Virginia as Miss Danville Volunteer with the Miss Virginia Volunteer organization. Her platform, Powerful Voices, is an educational initiative in response to the inequality between male and female historical figures mentioned in Virginia’s standards of learning for history education. This August was Kate’s first time competing on the state level, earning 2nd runner up in the inaugural Miss Virginia Volunteer pageant. Kate received a total of $1,800 in scholarship from her 2nd runner up placement and as the recipient of the Social Impact Award. During her time as Miss Danville Volunteer, Kate has collected books focusing on women heroes for Danville school teachers, developed the She. Me. We. program in association with her platform, and hosted a women in STEM event at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. Kate is a senior at Roanoke College, majoring in Education Professional Studies and plans to attend law school after graduation to pursue a career in education law.
