What is the purpose of evolution? It is said that we have evolved from a chain of ancestors which can be traced to a unicellular organism billions of years back. Where is this evolution taking us? Is there a link of the evolution of species with our own individual evolution?
If a lasting sense of wellbeing, peace and happiness is our ultimate evolution, then could we consider the buddhas as having reached to that pinnacle of evolution? Is that the destiny of Mankind? All beings? If yes, and if yoga promises that lasting sense of happiness, does it mean that Yoga is that evolution pill?
Gautama lives in popular imagination as “the buddha”. Yet, ‘buddha’ is neither a name nor a title. One who has awakened his ‘buddhi’, intelligence, is called ‘buddha’, “the awakened”. If Gautama could do it, can each of us not?
We commonly use intelligence to refer to intellect, the information processing of the brain, analytical skill, and smartness. But intelligence, buddhi, was used in a different sense by the ancients. As the force, the power behind all creation.
Yoga comes from the root ‘yuj’, which is to “yoke”, “to unite with”, “to join”. The yoking, uniting, joining is said to be with this cosmic intelligence, our source and our destiny.
In this fascinating exploration, Dr. Bharat Thakur takes us on a journey through time to present the evolutionary potential of Yoga, for each individual.
