We're watching Under the Tuscan Sun this week, and going back to what we're now learning was a fantastic year for the American economy: 2003. No wonder 35-year-old women felt so much more settled than they do today... Seriously, if we didn't know what she looked like and someone told us Frances was in her 50s, we'd believe them. It makes a lot more sense.
Frances, played by Diane Lane, is a writer recovering from a recent divorce. She takes the advice of her best friend, Patti, played by Sandra Oh, and goes to Italy on vacation. She buys a fixer-upper villa, makes friends and forms a family.
