This week I sat down and had a conversation with long-time activist, videographer and photographer, Bob Nilsson. Bob was on the ground engaged in doing whatever he could to resist the arrival of Fracking (hyrdo-fracking gas drilling) into NY state and, more specifically, his neck of the woods of The Finger Lakes region.
We chat about what got him started down that path and what he brought to the struggle. Bob recognizes an effective, peaceful, civil resistance derives from standing in one's truth. Using the Gandhian "truth force" that is well, up from which meaningful protest is drawn.
Our conversation led us into grappling with what it takes to present the same kind of sustained, unified, peaceful disobedience to the mandates and restrictions that are swarming around us in today's world of vaccines and viruses.
