Critics of #agile frameworks and methodologies are under the assumption that planning isn't a very important element of #productdevelopment for #scrum and #LeSS (Large Scale Scrum) teams.
That isn't true, however, because planning plays a critical role in product development and rapid iterations of products and features. The #scrum guide features #sprintplanning as the very first event in the Sprint so rest assured, it is both meaningful and valuable in a #largescalescrum environment.
In traditional or waterfall #projectmanagement, a #projectmanager attempts to guess the entire project upfront. They attempt to plan every single step of the multi-year journey and anticipate what kinds of problems could arise from the dependencies at each step of the project.
If that sounds kinda impossible, you're definitely not losing your mind. Given the high complexity of the 21st century, it is impossible to guess a multi-year project upfront?
In other words, a single person is being set up for failure. The project manager.
In #scrum, we rely on the expertise of every member of our product development group when planning. From the Scrum Masters to the Product Owners, and through to the development team themselves.
Decision-making is a critical element of each #sprint cycle and the entire team are responsible for ensuring that their focus lies in creating products and features that truly delight customers.
How?
#LeSS expert #coach and #trainer Ben Maynard walks us through who is responsible for planning in LeSS (Large Scale Scrum) environments. In this short episode, Ben shares his thoughts, insights and recommendations for how planning should be conducted.
Ben has over a decade's worth of experience as a #LeSS practitioner, coach and trainer. He has worked on some of the most successful #LeSS adoptions in some of the most diverse industries. He has also collaborated and co-trained with #LeSS co-founders Bas Vodde and Craig Larman.
