Through Christ’ death and resurrection, He made a way for us to be reconciled to God. When we recognize our sin, turn from it, and then seek God’s forgiveness, our vertical relationship is restored.
However, restoration does not eliminate the consequences of sin. Those consequences must still be dealt with, like with David. The prophet Nathan spoke God's decision that his son would die.
While his son lived, David sought God in the hope that the child's life might be spared. Yet once his son died, David accepted the Lord's outcome. He returned to worshipping God and broke his fast.
As we learn to trust God more and more, we find a way to accept the outcome He determines is best. We do this by moving toward God, like David, even in our pain and loss.
We are forgiven. Restoration of both vertical and horizontal relationships is possible.
