Jan Broberg was born on July 31, 1962 in Pocatello, Idaho. She is the oldest child of Bob and Mary Ann Broberg. Her dad, Bob, reports that Jan was always very outgoing, and describes her as “a firecracker”. Jan’s younger sister, Karen, said that Jan was her defender when she was younger, because she was shy but Jan was fearless. Her other sister, Susan, said that all three of them were really good friends growing up, and describes their childhood as “normal”. And it was. Until it wasn’t. Because at the age of 12 Jan Broberg was abducted by a family friend, only to be rescued 5 weeks later in Mexico.
But that was only the beginning of the story. This episode is going to be broken down into two parts. In this first part we’re going to cover Jan’s childhood, how her abductor entered her life, and the first kidnapping and rescue.
