On January 26th, 2011 Sam Goldberg realized that he had been locked out of his 6th floor apartment. Sam had left his apartment for about 30-45 minutes so that he could go workout at the in-building gym, and he had even remembered to take his keys with him. But when he returned to the apartment and tried to open the door he realized that the bar lock was latched from the inside. Sam knocked, calling out for his fiance, Ellen, to come let him in, but she didn’t respond. Sam waited for an hour, texting Ellen repeatedly, and getting more frustrated as time went on. Eventually, he got the attention of a building security guard who helped him force the door open. As Sam walked into the apartment he found Ellen sitting on the ground, with her body slumped against the kitchen cabinets. Sam immediately called 911, but when EMS arrived they quickly realized it was already too late. Ellen was dead.
