Hinterkaifeck was a small farm nestled between the towns of Ingolstadt and Schrobenhausen in Bavaria, Germany. The farm was originally built in 1863, and in the 1920s, it was home to a multigenerational family. Andreas Gruber, the patriarch of the family, was 64 years old in 1922 and his wife, Cazilia, was 72. They lived with their widowed daughter, 35 year old Viktoria, and her two young children, 7 year old Cazilia, who the family called Ceely and 2 year old Josef. The family also had a live-in maid, though their old maid had quit about 6 months previously, and a new maid, named Maria, had just taken her place. Unfortunately, this family and their new maid would be the victims of one of the most infamous murders in true crime history.
