Vondale Eugene Singleton Sr. was born on the Southside of Chicago. Having to deal with the death of his mother, and the imprisonment of his father, Vondale was raised by a family friend who encouraged me to stay in school. At the age of 17, Vondale met a mentor that empowered him to go to college. Vondale is a 1st Generation College Graduate, earning a Bachelor of Arts, and a Master of Arts. Vondale used his gifts of technology, and people skills to show empathy to young men that were in similar situations.
Vondale has worked in primary, secondary, and post-secondary education. Vondale believes that “salvation plus education is an unbeatable combination”. While serving as an Assistant Principal, at KIPP Tulsa, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Vondale started a Male Mentoring program called C.H.A.M.P.S. (Culturally Helping And Making Positive Success).
C.H.A.M.P.S. has been featured on ABC, FOX, NBC, USA TODAY, PBS, VOA, Huffington Post, and the Atlanta Black Star for leading students to create a short film that was featured as 1 of 15 out of 1,500 at the White House with President Obama, as an Official Selection of the 2nd Annual White House Student Film Festival.
Vondale has won numerous awards and many recognitions for his work with C.H.A.M.P.S. and seeks to Educate, Empower, and Expose Young Men beyond the four walls of the school through culturally relevant conversations.
