So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. —Genesis 1:27
Image of God = made to resemble God mentally, morally, and socially
- Mentally - ability to reason and choose
- Morally - created in righteousness and perfect innocence
- Socially - created for fellowship
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. —James 3:931 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. —Genesis 1:31
Helpmate defined: “an assistant getting in the ditch along side the other person, giving advise when needed, and making sure other important things don’t get left behind or forgotten. They lead when needed, inspire, encourage, and realize the importance the relationship and roles that have been created between them.’
23 Then the man said,“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.” —Genesis 2:23Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You[a] shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” —Genesis 3:1-515 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. —Colossians 1:15-17
Dysphoria = “a state of unease or dissatisfaction with life.”
-Doubting God’s goodness can tempt us into sin.
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. —James 1:13-1519 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. —Matthew 15:19
-When we give into temptation, we sin
-Sin is an offense against God’s moral law
-When we sin we receive consequences
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. —Galatians 5:16-17
24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. —Ephesians 4:24
Takeaway: God makes Creation good again through the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins.
