My name is Matt and I created @aliferecovered in July 2020. I’m 34, originally from CT, but now live in San Diego, CA. I hit one year sober again on September 17th 2021. My drugs of choice were alcohol, cocaine and meth.
I was adopted from Fort Worth, TX by two amazing parents. I was an addict by my mid-teens but I regarded it as a phase. I totaled several cars, was fired from jobs, kicked out of college and even put on seizure medication when I knew the seizures were from drug/alcohol abuse not a predisposition to epilepsy.
I joined the military in 2011 and was discharged for drug use in January 2018. Addiction had taken everything from me. My job, my relationships with family and friends, my car, my apartment, all of my money and belongings. It also took the Matt that I used to be.
