There is a highway that runs 725 kilometers between Prince George and Prince Rupert in British Columbia, Canada.
Beginning in 1970 this stretch of road has claimed the lives of many women, mostly indigionous. In 1998 there was a vigil held for these women in Terrace B.C. and Florence Nazial coined the phrase highway of tears who was thinking of the victims' families crying overĀ their loved ones.
The exact number is not known for these cases but the E PANA division of the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) says the number is fewer than 18. But Aboriginal organizations say this number is closer to 40
