Description

With service, there are technical skills you can learn...and then there are skills that make actually competent at interfacing with other human beings. It is extraordinary how much any education of these skills is absent from the usual professional training, parenting, or any level of schooling (including the highest levels of academia). They're skills I had to learn from the trials and tribulations of endlessly bumping into walls of frustration and bewilderment.

I totally understand. These skills are deep, sometimes esoteric concepts that you would normally find in Eastern wisdom systems like Buddhism and Yoga. I was fortunate enough to meet some inspiring teachers to share practices with me that taught me the meditation and conscious living practices that I needed. They not only provided a deeper sense of well-being and capability, but transformed my interpersonal abilities.

They made me more skillful. Skillfulness (Upaya) is a Buddhist concept that this episode looks at more deeply. Essentially, it's about being living in a way that allows the results you want - more harmony, better relationships, generally a life where you don't regret your actions.
