Jason Heil, Clery Act Coordinator, Crime Analyst, and Crime Prevention Specialist with University of California, San Francisco spoke to On Campus with CITI Program about Clery Act crimes. Jason has dedicated more than a decade to Clery Act compliance, crime analysis and reporting, campus safety and infrastructure protection, and community liaison to the campus community on issues of safety and crime prevention on campus.
Clery Act crimes are offenses which are covered by the Clery Act and fall into one of four main categories. These four main categories include: primary crimes; alcohol, drug, and weapon violations; hate crimes; and Violence Against Women Act crimes. The Clery Act requires that institutions of higher education which receive federal funding to report crimes that occur on or near campus and implement school safety policies.
