Did you know that special education in the US dates back to the 1800s? But it wasn’t until the last 50 years that America began serving a broader range of children and their parents. At various times in the last two centuries, advocates and parents spoke up about the needs of their special students, leading us toward the array of special education options we have today. The history is long and hard, but fascinating and admirable. What will America improve next?
