Description

We've been talking about it for over 12 or 14 years now. We think it's something that never goes away. Especially if you're an entrepreneur that is an A player type overachiever mindset mentality, you're always tackling new things. We’ve dealt with it ourselves most of the time and we are going to share to you our experience and how we push past overwhelm.

When you are an entrepreneur or overachiever, you alway tackle new things but that can sometimes lead to the existing tasks to be ignored.  When these tasks remain open, the list of things to do can become longer and overwhelm us.  We had our own coaching program and talked about the big green elephant. The point of the proverbial elephant that was on our plate was not to look at it as a whole but to take small bites from it until it was consumed. When we are overwhelmed, we ask ourselves what is our highest priority? We then will address today’s tasks and not vene think about what needs to be completed later until the today list is completed. Each day, this is repeated. And then we complete one task at a time.  In our coaching sessions, we conducted an exercise when the participants tracked their activity in 15 minute increments. We had them ask themselves the question, “ What am I doing?” Then, we took it one additional step and asked if what they were doing was a money making activity. This simple exercise helped the parties to learn to delegate items from their tasks lists that could be the focus of one of their teams who had expertise in that area. But there's also the joy factor, life is about having fun, not just doing the things that make you money. If you have a task list item you enjoy, keep it and the joy you derive from that work will help you from becoming overwhelmed.
