We did a podcast about Dan Fleischmann’s 40-40-20 rule. He really taught us that 80% should be in more predictable medium risk investments. And then the 20% is the higher risk investments. Consistency is important always so we decided to put aside the same amount of money monthly to put into crypto. And that way sometimes we're buying when it's low, sometimes we're buying it when it's high. This is the 20%. We don't care if it goes away or if it makes something. It does not matter to us. But we're being consistent and strategic about how we're investing in it.
And then there is boring. We say Ohio is boring. That's actually why we moved here because you're not going to have the big swings of Arizona, Texas, Florida, things like that. But it also means not putting a bunch of your money into volatile investments. Boring is throwing it into something that you can reliably just leave it there for a long time. Our favorite example is of course real estate. The things that we love about real estate are the cash flow, tax benefits, appreciation, the fact that you can get above market returns, it's a hedge against inflation. And if you're aligned with the right team, it's also risk mitigation.
