Description

2002, one year after the events of 9/11, is a politically turbulent time in the United States. This is especially true for someone like Shirin, a teenage Muslim girl who is constantly stereotyped by others - rude stares, hateful comments, and even physical violence. When she and her family move to small-town America, she’s determined to keep her head down and get through each day as quickly as possible. Until she meets Ocean (it’s a good kind of meeting).

How do the actions of others cause lasting emotional harm? What are the smells, sounds, tastes, or people that make you feel safe? Join us as we discuss these questions and more in episode three of our spoiler-filled podcast.

Trigger warnings: racism, bullying, trauma, discrimination, complicated relationships.

Questions: The questions discussed in this podcast were distributed to the public by HarperCollins Publishers.
