What is World Localization?
Here I speak with filmmaker and author of "Local is Our Future" director of the international non-profit Local Futures, linguist, and pioneer of the new economy movement, Helen Norberg-Hodge. Here she shares how her life was changed in 1975 when she visited the Tibetan Plateau, and met the Ladakhi people.
Jane Goodall, Naomi Klein, Brian Eno, Gabor Mate, Russel Brand, and many more voices join Helena in her documentary film to discuss this movement...Check out https://worldlocalizationday.org
Below, we discuss localization and diversification for the environment and healthy economies. Helena talks about colonization's effect on indigenous cultures. Helena talks about the consumer monoculture and the breakdown of biological and cultural diversity, erosion of food security and society in cultures around the world.
Her books include ‘Ancient Futures: Learning from Ladakh’, an eye-opening tale of tradition and change in Ladakh, or “Little Tibet”. Together with a film of the same title, Ancient Futures has been translated into more than 40 languages, and sold half a million copies. Other books include, ‘Bringing the Food Economy Home’ and ‘From the Ground Up: Rethinking Industrial Agriculture’.
