We also take a deeper look into Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass. Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass is the first campaign setting to come from 1985 Games. While it’s written to work with 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, a primarily combat focused RPG system, it stands out as being uniquely the contrary. Obojima is what we’ve coined as “leisure fantasy,” meaning that it’s designed to be a slice of life more than the kind of campaign where you wage a bloody war across the realms to punch god.
The island of Obojima is a whimsical place inspired by classic anime and adventure video games. It’s an idyllic land filled with playful spirits, memorable characters, and vibrant locations. This lo-fi campaign emboldens adventures to be creative, go at their own pace, and take it easy. Parties are encouraged to get to know NPCs, participate in town activities, learn, grow, and explore.
One of the biggest draws of Obojima is the brand-new, one-of-a-kind potion brewing system. Featuring over 60 ingredients that can be found throughout the island and can be used to brew 180 unique potions. The potions can be used as utility, combat enhancers, or can even cause hilarious and whimsical effects. The whole in-depth system is fun, easy to learn, and comes with delightful descriptions, location info, and difficulties of procuring for every ingredient and brewable potion. Some ingredients can be a whole adventure in and of themselves to get a hold of! The Obojima potion brewing system can also be seamlessly added to any 5th edition campaign to make more fun for alchemists, herbalists, and brewmasters in the party.
